„The term contingency refers to something that is neither necessary nor impossible; something that can be as it is (was, will be), but that is also possible in a different way.
The term thus designates given things (things to be experienced, expected, thought, fantasized) with regard topossible otherness; it designates objects in the horizon of possible variations.“
The underlying distinctions and constructions always
could be determined in this way but also differently.
Contingency is a negation of necessity and impossibility.
